GERGLE gets going! Join GERG’s data project
After Google comes GERGLE, GERG’s proposed new site for sharing, using, and roasting data about the economy and all things geopolitical, launching soon at the University of Manitoba. If you’d like to be in on the ground floor, get in touch at [email protected]. We are particularly looking for people to help with:
Digging into Data. We need folks to rummage through that great mass of economic and geopolitical data which is out there on open access sites, because we are going to make it truly accessible. That needs people who either know about economic and geopolitical statistics, or would like to learn. You should either have a background in politics, economics, geography or history – or cognate subjects – or be in love with numbers. Preferably both.
Not For Dummies. We need crash-testers. Our aim is a facility for people with no special expertise and a thirst for knowledge. Can you help us by trying it? No pre-requisites beyond an enquiring mind and expertise at running into trouble.
Learn by Teaching. We need tutors, course developers and evangelists to tell other people how to use the site. This work is as long as a piece of string: developing good communication and tutorial materials is 99% of the work of creating a successful new design. If you are a good communicator or think you can become one, get in touch.
Geeks Welcome. We will apply Business Intelligence software to macroeconomic data. If you have a background in using pivot tables, SSAS, BI software, SQL, OLAP cubes or visualization software – or would like to learn – get in touch. Best suited to those with a background in Information Technology or Engineering. Some tuition may be available (but you’ll need the Pre-Requisites)
